Disrupt the Narrative:
Art, Late Capitalism, and the Trump Era

Led by Jessica Almasy and Sanaz Ghajar, this two-hour workshop culminates in the presentation of a new ensemble-generated performance piece. We will use visual art, pop culture references, and found text to investigate the contradictions that we struggle with in America today. Focusing on image-based, ensemble-generated work that pushes against traditional narrative forms, we will explore unconventional devising methods, taking physical and structural risks in order to dismantle our pre-existing points of view and move towards a collective enlightenment. Open to all Prelude participants. Please wear clothes you can move in.

Jessica Almasy & Sanaz Ghajar have been making work together for a decade, drawn to each other through a mutual desire to marry in a majorly polyamorous way the ideas of excellence and anarchy. An embrasure of accidents, synchronicity, and the unspoken but understood shared reality of a project root their magnetism. Jess is drawn to Sanaz’s externalization as a director of the vivid visual landscape that Jess carries in her mind unseen as a performer and a writer. Sanaz feeds off Jess’s sense of writing for the actor and creating rigorous text. Past together works include: Hamlet (Galapagos Art Space), Wook Taut Majesty #3 (Pete’s Candy Store), Red Wednesday (BRIC Arts | Media Lab), Danger Signals (New Ohio Theatre & IRT), and others. #braintwins
